Carers

Central Bedfordshire Council
Carers have a legal right to request an assessment of their needs as a carer. This may lead to a service to support the carer in their caring role or help them to enjoy a life outside of their caring role. Central Bedfordshire Council fund voluntary and community organisations supporting carers and also run support groups for people caring for someone with a Learning Disability.

NHS Carers Breaks

Carers with a health issue themselves can apply for up to £200 to access a break from their caring role. A break in this instance constitutes a break from the carer’s point of view but cannot be anything that social services would normally fund. Successful applications from previous rounds include holistic therapies, photography courses, a weekend break and a dementia awareness training course.

Applications are considered by a scrutiny panel and decisions are made on a monthly basis. For further information contact Carers in Bedfordshire on 01767 315079. Alternatively you can visit their website at www.carersinbeds.co.uk.

Carers Cafes

The Carers Cafe is for carers, their cared for and immediate family members of any age. They are run by carer support workers from Carers in Bedfordshire who are able to offer information, support and advice to carers. Additional services are also available for carers and their cared for; these include chiropody, massage and hairdressing.

For more information contact Carers in Bedfordshire on 01234 214914.
